We developed the B-Side — the basement and backside — of Mud Pies Preschool. This video sums up the initial vision:

B-SIDE PROGRESS

The HVAC air purifier has been installed. The top notch technicians from Conner’s Heating and Cooling installed the iWave-R. This filtered air gets circulated throughout the entire building. We love to open the windows and doors to get fresh air when the weather is balmy and air is clear. But even when windows and doors are closed, our air now gets mechanically ventilated and filtered.

The basement looks so good. We fixed up the walls, touched up a pre-existing mural in the corner, assembled a cozy couch, and put in soft flooring. Thanks Chelsea, Kai, and Bash!

The staircase is now safe. Angie (a parent), a talented woodworker with decades of experience, tapped into her boat building history and combined it with beautiful building materials to create this sturdy yet whimsical safety partition on the stairway. It’s like a magic trick: it looks like it’s floating! Thanks Angie!

The bathroom is complete. Whew, this was an endeavor. With some creativity, grit and determination we pulled it off. Key features include a hot water tank so that nice warm water comes out immediately (water efficiency, plus nice for the B-Side children who wash their hands before and after meals, plus any pottying), motion-activated lighting (so we don’t need to worry about turning off the switch), and a bonus porch (lots of room to run back here!). The back porch is now a great place to hang out with two picnic tables (for socially-distanced meals) and a cozy couch for quiet activities. Thanks Shuvo!

The side-entrance has been upgraded with a new awning, thanks to the help of Dave (a parent) on a 100-degree-day. Thanks Dave!

We continue to make improvements to the spaces as we go. Onwards! 🙏🏽

What Was the Timeline?

We tackled things as they seem appropriate for the schedule and budget, mostly in June-August 2020.
